What would a Republican party look like that could appeal to a majority of American voters?

Clearly the party has lost its way. It has embraced values that most Americans don’t share, and abandoned those it once stood for. Do you see a way for the Republican party to again appeal to the majority? What would it look like?

I think the religious right is a big reason that the Republican party took a bit of a nose dive. They were very vocal and appeared to represent themselves as the majority of Republicans. This misrepresentation angered even Republicans and created a lot of in-fighting within the party. They lost their identity and unified front.

Therefore, I believe that for the Republican party to regain its credibility, they need to present themselves without the inflexible and intolerant values of the religious right. They also need to close the door on the loud mouthpieces that just seem to want to bash others without offering positive and alternative solutions (e.g.Rush Limbaugh)

In presenting themselves in a more tolerant, open-minded manner, the Republican party could easily make a come-back, and even as a Democrat, I hope it does.

How does the republican party manage to keep their rank and file voters from rioting?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under republican | 7 Comments »

When the rank and file, pickup truck driving republican voters realize that Obama is not the "socialist" their party has convinced them that he is and they realize how they have been duped into passively accepting an economic system that allows 5% of the people to control almost all the wealth, will they simply jump ship or riot against their handlers?

And might they consider bring back the guillotine for use against their former spokesmen (Rush,Rove, Cheney ect) in retaliation for the abuses they have suffered?

They use fear. It works on the uneducated and ignorant.

How did the republican party descend into fanatacism?

Posted by admin on May 27th, 2010 and filed under republican | 24 Comments »

When will it stop and when will moderates once more be a power in the republican party?

good question.

the gop has been taken over by these fringe elements, and many many moderates are now registered as either independents or libertarians, mostly due to their disgust with where the gop is headed. What is the gop strength at today? Around 20%, last i heard.

How did the Republican party become the conservative party and the Democrats the liberal party?

Posted by admin on May 23rd, 2010 and filed under republican | 10 Comments »

During the Civil War it was the other way around. Most southerners were Democrats and most northerners were Republican, now it’s the other way around. What happened?

Two things: Johnson in the 60s (especially the civil rights bill of 1964) and Reagan in the 80s.

Johnson broke the ’solid South’ for the Democratic Party (he admitted that the civil rights legislation had "lost the South for a generation" for the Democrats), and Reagan, the consummate actor and self-made Cold Warrior, won it solidly for the Republicans. There were other factors involved, including demographic factors (the swelling population of the white South) and the growing political influence of white evangelical Christians.

What is the Republican solution to the health care problem?

Posted by admin on May 20th, 2010 and filed under republican | 23 Comments »

Obviously, the "free market" solution is not working. A "free market" allows the insurance companies to cherry-pick, leaving those who need insurance out in the cold.

What is the Republican’s plan to make sure EVERYONE has access to health care coverage at a REASONABLE price?
Tax credits as a solution again do no good if the insurance companies deny you insurance, or deny your claims!
I always laugh at those that say "everyone should pay for their own" as a response. If the insurance companies won’t insure you, how are you going to do that?

I’m not sure, but to the people who say ‘pay for you own’ I have news for you. My mother works @ Hopkins. There are children with cancer that come to her unit (because it is the best in the world for treatment) whose parents have excellent jobs. Some of these people have had to put up their houses to be able to keep up with the medical bills of their sick child. These are not gov’t leeches, they are hard working teachers, nurses, even doctors, that have literally had to shell out everything they own to make sure their children don’t die. It’s sad really.

There is more than one side to a coin. I wish people would stop thinking of this as a handout and start seeing a broader perspective about this issue.

EDIT: hospitals don’t turn anyone away, but they give you a bill thats through the roof anytime you have to go in! Something needs to be done, it isn’t good enough to say what we are doing is working because it isn’t. And if the plan he wants to implement doesn’t work we need to try something else. The state of health care in terms of cost in this country is deplorable. And btw, there are plenty of people with full time jobs who cannot afford health insurance because you have to pay an exhorbitant amount out of pocket ex: a full time waitress

EDIT#2- you’d rather them put up their homes and end up needing some form of gov’t assistance anyway because they have no assets or money? what do you think people do when they have no $ and no way out? they get on govt programs, and who do you think pays for that?

During the last elections, did the republican party intentionally appeal to racists?

Posted by admin on May 17th, 2010 and filed under republican | 29 Comments »

I’m not saying all republicans are racists, that is far from true. I’m not saying that the republican platform is based on racism, that isn’t true either. I’m asking whether the party intentionally appealed to racists voters to gain extra non-issue votes.

Yes, they did appeal to racists and they are still appealing to racists.
