im currently building a mini bike/chopper and i have a 5hp briggs and stratton engine. i was wondering what are the effects of how the engine would run. would it create more rpms, less rpms, or not run right any ideas?
I found some info that may answer your question.

The governer is made as an integral part of the engine, not to be removed, as you can’t remove them anyway. If you did somehow the engine, would not run at all. We have all heard stories about guys unhooking the governor from the spring, but to actually remove the governer, you can’t.

You can disconnect the governor and use the throttle cable to control the engine speed. The thing to consider is the max rpm of the engine. If you continually exceed the max rpm you will shorten the life of the engine. This can happen quickly. If you limit the max rpm to what the engine is designed for you should be just fine. Most people don’t limit the rpm and the engine will be toast in a short itme but it will be fun.

Its likely that you will over rev the engine and blow it up. But it can be done. The governor closes the throttle as the centrifugal weights are opened by the engine speed. Disconnect the governor and connect a spring to close the throttle, so that the engine will simply idle, then connect a minibike throttle and cable to it. I suggest you also hook up a tiny tach and keep the rpms under 3600.
