Tests and data were administered via the Raven’s APT, and The Test Agency (one of the UK’s leading publishers and distributors of psychometric tests)
This data was published in the Economist and the St. Petersburg Times.
This is all the information I was able to find. It also seems that there is much debate on how accurate this data is, so take it with a grain of salt.

@Andragorans My dad is a smart guy, and a successful one and a mormon. He is very logical and he realizes what he believes is reliant on faith and predicated on the assumption of a book. But he absolutely denies evolution and others that would hurt his faith.

Of course there are smarter and dumber christians as there are smarter and dumber atheists.
But “in average” atheists have the higher IQ.
Like “in average, women are smaller then men”.. there are lots of big women out there but “in average” they are smaller.
It’s religions bad luck that all the really stupid people are on their side.

@flamesRules Einstein was an atheist all his adult life, he said so. Though he would use “God” as a metaphor. Newton and Da Vinci lived in very primitive times when science had yet to expose our dark superstitions to the light of reason. There was no alternative explanation for existence at that time. We were barely even aware that the earth revolved around the sun. Don’t you have any smart contemporary examples? In a way you have just proved the point of this video.

@Andragorans There are always exceptions but in general as was shown, atheists tend to be more intelligent than theists. For example – back in grade shool were the first students to stop believing in Santa Claus the smart ones or the dumb ones?

Excellent video. Great statistics. You could also have correlated IQ with Religiousity and Levels of Crime, Poverty, Substance Abuse, Divorce, Teenage Pregnancy etc. etc. and seen the same trend – the lower the IQ the higher the religiosity and the higher all the rest of it.

The graph with the religion and the IQ is just dull. WHen a person is religious that doesnt mean that he is stupid or so. I speak for the christians, no where it is said: “Dont learn science, remain ignorant” or “Being educated or smart is for the atheists” , I know that IQ doesnt mean that a person has a lot of knowledge, but to be an axpert in a science field you have to have a good IQ result, right? I dont know for the other religions but Christianity didnt prevent me from studying science.
