meriwether Lewis and Clark were in the republican party. What did they stand for then and what do we stand for now?

Lewis and Clark were in the Democratic-Republican party which under Andrew Jackson became the Democratic party.

The Democratic Republican party was founded by Thomas Jefferson who wanted rights for the people. "Members of the Democratic-Republican Party believed that a strong federal government would weaken and not respect the rights of the states and the people."
